...INCREASED FIRE DANGER TODAY... The combination of low relative humidity, gusty winds, and dry fuels and brush will lead to increased fire danger across the North Carolina Foothills and Piedmont this afternoon. Relative humidity values falling to near 20 percent will combine with wind gusts around 20 mph during the warmest part of the afternoon. Please refer to your local burn permitting authorities on whether you can burn. Outdoor burning is generally not recommended since fires can quickly get out of hand under these conditions.

* WHAT...Sub-freezing temperatures as low as 28 expected.

* WHERE...Portions of east central and northeast Kansas and central and west central Missouri.

* WHEN...From 3 AM to 9 AM CDT Saturday.

* IMPACTS...Frost and freeze conditions will kill crops, other sensitive vegetation and possibly damage unprotected outdoor plumbing.

Take steps now to protect tender plants from the cold. To prevent freezing and possible bursting of outdoor water pipes they should be wrapped, drained, or allowed to drip slowly. Those that have in-ground sprinkler systems should drain them and cover above- ground pipes to protect them from freezing.

...Some Slippery Spots Expected Late This Afternoon and Early Evening... Through 7 PM, temperatures will fall into the lower 30s. As this occurs, the rain will change over to a wintry mix. Light ice accumulations may develop on untreated surfaces. In addition, existing moisture already on the roads may freeze as the temperatures drop. Slow down and use caution while traveling. At 1249 PM CDT, Emergency Management reported ice jam backflows and snowmelt flooding along the Turtle River. Flooding is already occurring. Some locations that will experience flooding include... Manvel and Mekinock. Grand Forks County roads 11 and 5 and other rural roads could see closures.
