Man critically injured in car-cycle crash identified

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) The man injured in the Tuesday morning cycle-car crash has been identified as a 28-year-old Topeka resident, Nicholas Wayne Clearwater.

At 5:36 Tuesday morning Topeka Police were called to 45th and S. Topeka on reports of a two vehicle accident. When officers arrived on scene they found a four-door maroon Mitsubishi and a Honda motorcycle.

TPD told 13 NEWS the Mitsubishi was traveling south on S. Topeka Blvd and made a left turn into the Kwik Shop at 4500 S. Topeka Blvd.

The car pulled in front of the motorcycle which was traveling north on S. Topeka Blvd.

Clearwater was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. The male victim was wearing a helmet. TPD says he remains in the hospital as of Wednesday morning.

Three people in the car were taken to the Topeka Law Enforcement Center for questioning and were later released

The TPD Accident Reconstruction Unit responded to the scene and do not believe alcohol is a contributing factor.

Northbound traffic on S. Topeka Blvd was diverted for a time around the crash scene, but all lanes have since reopened.
